Why do poor people buy expensive cars?

Watching the streams of prestigious foreign cars passing down the street, you often ask yourself: are people really so rich that they can afford to buy such expensive cars?

Doubts are amplified when looking at a galaxy of cars lined up in the courtyard. Elite representatives of the global automotive industry, with more than one hundred "horses" under the hood, cause admiration, envy and slight bewilderment. Where is an ordinary resident of a typical high-rise building earned money for such an expensive "toy"? And most importantly, why does a person who lives on the salary of an ordinary clerk need such a prestigious car? It is even expensive to fill it, not to mention those. maintenance and inevitable repairs.

It is also striking that more than one person has allowed himself such a purchase. Judging by the parking lot, every third inhabitant of a not very prestigious area of the city has a stylish and powerful “steel horse”. Where does this massive demand for expensive cars come from? Obviously, such purchases are not affordable for the overwhelming majority!
Everything falls into place if you look at the statistics. It turns out that more than 70% of cars bought in our country over the past 10 years, purchased on credit!
This problem is not only about cars. On rich phones and electronic equipment, stylish clothes and accessories, far from rich people are willing to spend ten times more than they earn. In order to purchase a luxury foreign car or a coveted iPhone, many take loans from a bank or buy a fashionable gadget in installments for several years.

Moreover, they are not at all embarrassed by the fact that an expensive car will often stand idle under the house due to the lack of money for refueling, and the phrase “Your account has run out of money” will sound from the phone time after time. And the owner of the expensive “toys” himself will survive on the crumbs remaining from the salary, buying cheap food and denying himself pleasures, because his income is trivially incapable of “pulling” a purchase that is not affordable.

But this situation is familiar to almost every one of us! Why do we do this? What's the point of this?

Status "toys" and the psychology of the poor man

In fact, the answer lies on the surface. Our brain can be divided into two components: animal (instincts and emotions) and reasonable (mental, analytical activity).

A person whose animal instincts prevail over reason, more acutely than others, is subject to the instinct of domination. He wants to stand out from the crowd, be higher, more importantly, more importantly, to gain influence and status.

If the mental component of such an individual prevailed over emotions, he would understand that the main function of the phone is to keep in touch with the right people, hours - to show time, and the car - to deliver a person from point A to point B. - protect your feet. And the main criterion for these things is reliability.

Moreover, an intelligent person who wants to stand out from the crowd, wants to dominate or demonstrate his potential to the world, chooses reasonable ways to do this. He is improving in the case, which he sincerely loves, tries to be realized in the chosen profession or to receive recognition of his creativity. And some even devote their lives to helping other people, receiving public recognition in return.

But in a man of scanty mind, whose instincts prevail over reason, some other criteria come to the fore. He wants to look better than others, wants to be admired and envied. This way he enhances his own self-esteem.

The weak economy is to blame

According to psychologists, this problem is characteristic of poor countries, where, in fact, there is no middle class. The inhabitants of these countries are divided into very rich people (oligarchs), and frankly poor people who are trying to survive on meager wages.

This impoverished stratum of the population is very much in its condition and is trying in every way to get out of poverty. It succeeds only in units, and all the rest, who have no chance of becoming rich, try to at least seem so. Having bought expensive watches or a smart car for the last money, they consider this to be a confirmation of their own success, although in reality they are only plunging into debt!

It should also be said that in countries with a weak economy, the population is not socially protected, and therefore people are trying to at least somehow save their money, which flows like water through our fingers. The population does not trust the banks, and only a few are able to buy real estate. In this case, the preservation of funds is limited to the purchase of currency, jewelery or the purchase of a car, and then on the last funds or on credit. But considering the car can at any time get into an accident, and the phone - trite to break, such investments look extremely dubious.

In developed countries, particularly in Western Europe, the cult of economy predominates. People live within their means, wear inexpensive but comfortable clothes, and often move around the city by subway or bicycle. Because it is more convenient! Moreover, even members of the government move on bicycles around the city. But to buy an expensive car, when you do not have the funds for its maintenance, it will not even occur to anyone. This is just stupid!

This problem is clearly visible when buying clothes. Have you ever noticed that tourists visiting our country do not shock the local population with haute couture outfits? How many of them travel around the world in clothes that many of us are embarrassed to wear even to the store for bread? And they are representatives of the UK, France, USA, Japan and other developed countries.

In contrast, our people have a real cult of clothing. Clothing must be expensive, from the eminent fashion designer, so that at one glance at a person it would be immediately noticeable - he is fabulously rich. Men with the last money acquire expensive suits and watches of famous Swiss manufacturers, and women are ready even to flaunt in heels of cold in heels and short sable fur coats. And let them have an empty refrigerator at home, and tomorrow they will get to work by shuttle bus, today they want to surprise their clothes, they want to be jealous of them.

What is interesting, having come out in an expensive robe, a person tries to show that he has no money “pecking”. An expensive restaurant is best suited to showcase its “possibilities”. Flooding his eyes, the poor man orders a bottle of expensive wine, which costs three of his salary, and all sorts of exotic dishes that he doesn’t even know how to eat. Such profligacy on the part of a frankly non-rich person, for the sake of demonstrating a non-existent status, cannot be called stupidity.

What does such a madness to the poor

?

What is all this for? Just imagining himself to be secured, a person experiences an attack of happiness. Flaunting in a luxurious outfit or sitting in an expensive car, he notices admiring and envious glances. And this causes inner satisfaction. He begins to think that he is on top of the world.

In addition to improving self-esteem, expensive things are also a means of dominance. Just think, to whom would a nice girl turn her eyes ¬na guy from a bus or a young man who drove up on an elite foreign car? It is obvious that the second representative of the stronger sex has more chances to win the heart of the young person. Thanks to the car, he catches himself admiring glances, but more importantly, he gives the impression of a secure and reliable person with whom you can build a joint future. And let their relationship end a week later, thanks to the status car, the girl chose him, which means he became the winner in this dispute.

What threatens the expensive purchase of the poor

You must admit that the advantages of such behavior are extremely doubtful, and they bring satisfaction to the moment. But the life of expensive purchases complicate thorough!

If the purchase is made on credit, such “pseudomagors” are expected to be years of monthly payments. A person simply works for a car that after a while does not bring its former satisfaction. But buying a status car is still half the battle. It needs to be constantly serviced, not to mention regularly refueling, because some even have problems with it. As a result, the person becomes a slave to the acquired thing.

This happens literally with any acquisition, which can be described by the phrase “Not according to Senka hat”. The phone may break, fall and break. And a poor man has not yet paid a loan on him. And even there are no means to change the cracked screen.

Or elegant repair in the apartment. Many invest unthinkable funds in the decoration of their own homes, and all in order to surprise and make admire guests of his house. But this pleasure is momentary. A month passes, another, and the owner himself ceases to notice the beauty. She loses meaning to him. This means only one thing - the money was spent in vain. To the satisfaction of his own vanity.
Is it possible to fix something?

First of all, it is important to understand that it is pointless to spend money on things that are designed to confirm the alleged status of a person. If he doesn’t represent anything as a person, if he hasn’t achieved anything in life, things will not make him important and meaningful. Such a person will cause only ridicule of others, and suffer from lack of money and the inability to maintain an expensive purchase.

We must learn to see the essence of things so that they work for us, not we for them. The story here is very indicative, which was described in his book by the current President of the United States, Donald Trump. To organize the event, he, a successful businessman, needed to purchase 150 chairs. An assistant told Trump that he had found the right pieces of furniture for $ 1500 apiece. A businessman could easily swipe a check for a quarter of a million dollars, but he would not have been a famous financial tycoon if he had not been able to save!

After canceling the purchase, Trump personally started looking for chairs, and literally after a couple of hours, he found what he needed. And at a price of $ 90 apiece! The most interesting thing is that none of the senior persons even noticed the difference!

What am I leading to? And besides, if an item performs its basic functions, and if there is no difference, you don’t need to overpay for it! You can find dozens of computers that are no worse than an Apple Mac, or choose a phone that is not inferior to the latest iPhone. No need to overpay for imaginary prestige.

Poor people do not understand this. They are therefore poor, because they can neither earn, nor save, nor invest in development! Conclusion: each of us needs to learn financial literacy. These may be training courses or suitable literature. If you wish, you can find rational grains everywhere that will guide you along the right path.

Understand a simple thing: foolish to spend money on things that you can not afford. It is much more correct to invest them in your business, which in the future will help you receive passive or active income. Or travel on them around the world. Or spend to help those who live worse than you. You just need to live a real life. To live, not to seem!
